A2 New Tech: We’re Joining the Organizing Team

Ann Arbor has given a lot to Barrett Solutions. The relationships we’ve built here, the clients we’ve worked with, the people we’ve hired. So much of what we’ve been able to build is rooted in this community. Finding ways to give that back matters to us.

That’s why Ezra and I are excited to share that we’re joining Philippe Vella and Wiebke Hagendorf-Schröter as co-organizers of A2 New Tech.

A2 New Tech has been one of Ann Arbor’s best startup events for years. Every month, founders get up and share what they’re building, get real feedback from the room, and meet people who can help them move forward. It’s exactly the kind of event that makes this city a great place to build a company.

Our first event with the new team is October 20th. If you’re a founder, work in tech, or just want to see what people are building in Ann Arbor, we’d love to see you there.

Project Spotlight: Thimble and Thread

Most styling services try to sell you more clothes. Thimble and Thread, an Ann Arbor startup founded by Gunjan Sud, does the opposite: it pairs expert stylists with tech to deliver a personalized frame guide and 20 outfits created primarily from pieces you own.

When Gunjan's paid pilots began filling up fast, she needed technical help to keep pace. We automated parts of her process that were taking too much of her time, and are now scoping a web application to bring the client and stylist journey together in one place. If you're looking for personal styling that actually works with what you already own, check out what Gunjan is building at thimbleandthread.app or reach out to her at [email protected]. You can also catch Gunjan presenting at A2 New Tech on October 20th. Register at the link above.

And if you are building something here in Ann Arbor and need a technical partner, we would love to hear from you. Here's more context on Gunjan's experience working with Barrett Solutions: "Being a solo founder is difficult. Partnering with Barrett Solutions allowed me to move away from repetitive tasks that were sinking my time. Rhys and Justin took the time to understand the core problem I was facing and got to work right away."

a2Tech360 Recap: What a Way to Celebrate Ann Arbor Tech

This year we decided to go all in on a2Tech360 and we are really glad we did.

We kicked things off at Tech Homecoming, where Rhys and Ezra spent the evening catching up with familiar faces and meeting new ones. Then Ezra and I spent the weekend at the a2Tech360 Hackathon at the University of Michigan, where we helped lead the Local Impact track and watched teams spend two days building technology around real problems in our community. We wrapped up with Tech Trek on Liberty Street, where the whole team came out to work our booth and soak in the energy downtown.

We met people we had never crossed paths with before, reconnected with people we have known for years, and got to be part of something that makes Ann Arbor a really special place to build a company. Thank you to Ann Arbor SPARK and everyone who made a2Tech360 happen. We can’t wait for next year.
